The crisp green, the slender forms of orange, the purple patches of leaves, a river of white twisting and oozing down and through the landscape. It was a wave of aroma and color, but most of all it was delicious.
“Ewww, what is that?” D.T. grimaced flopping onto the couch. Crunch. Crunch. Jesse looked up, a crisp lettuce leaf stuck mid-chew. “Salad.”
“How can you eat that?” Crunch. Crunch. Jesse shrugged and viciously speared a crouton and carrot. “It’s good, that’s why.”
“Good? Good? Rabbit food is good? Next thing I know you’re going to be eating cat kibble.”
“Dogs eat kibble. Cats eat…” Crunch, crunch. “whatever it is cats eat.”
“Ugh…” he shivered watching her munch on another of his sworn enemies. She pushed him away.“Grow up.” He gasped and stood distancing himself from her, invisible sword in hand.
“Never.” A pillow hit his head. “Hey!” She smiled and continued to eat her salad. Crunch. Crunch.

My feet were heavy as I started moving. The inertia of the moment was pulling me down, the gravity of this place weighing on me. Two steps, then three, four, five. I started feeling marginally lighter as I moved away. The temptation to look back faded. I moved forward.
