Word #99

Here is your word for the week!

Don't look at the word until you are ready to write. When your fifteen minutes are up and you have completed your ficlet, you may either post it as a response here, or post a link to the ficlet in your own journal. If posting on your own journal, please hide the prompt word in some way (ie. under an LJ-cut) in order to avoid spoiling it for others.

Today's word is: marooned

You can copy and paste this code when posting your ficlet if desired.

Title: In Paris with You
Fandom/original: JE
Characters: Akanishi Jin/Yamashita Tomohisa
Rating: G
Word count: 326
Notes: Title taken from a poem by James Fenton of the same name (http://www.cs.rice.edu/~ssiyer/minstrels/poems/1142.html) - 'I'm a hostage. I'm maroonded' is a line from that poem, hence this piece.

"I don't wanna go," Jin whines, and you feel yourself crumbling.

"But it's Paris. We can't not go. What'll you say to the others when you get back? 'Oh yeah, I went to Paris but I didn't visit the Louvre, the Sacre Coeur or the Notre Dame. Didn't even walk down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. What's that, Koki? What did I do instead? Well, I spent the entire three days in the hotel with my best friend.' Yeah, that doesn't sound suspicious at all."

"Oh, shut up," Jin says, rolling over on the bed. The sheets tangle and wrap around his slender waist as he reaches over towards the bedside cabinet for the pack of cigarettes that lies there. With a groan, he disentangles himself from the sheets, pulls on his pyjama pants and goes out onto the balcony. Lighting up, he leans back in through the open doors and beckons you. With a (faked) despairing sigh, you willingly follow.

"So what are you going to say to them when you get back?" you ask, leaning on the balcony and watching the smoke whisper out from between parted lips. You envy the smoke for a brief, ridiculous second, before you remember that you've probably kissed his lips more times than he's had cigarettes, and while he may be addicted to smoking, you're pretty sure he's addicted to you, too.

"Oh, you know. The usual. Hooked up with a few hot Parisian chicks, went out clubbing... I'll say that the shops in Tokyo are better than the ones in Paris, and then I'll probably tell them that you lost money in the casinos. They'll believe that, easy."

"You're a dirty liar, Akanishi," you scold him, but your words are not harsh. He flicks the butt of his cigarette into the street below, where early-morning pedestrians are beginning to throng the pavement.

"Come back to bed, Pi," he says, and, as always, you're only too happy to oblige.

I'm not familiar with the fandom/characters at all, but I really liked this. Nice easy flow to it, and I love the bantering. <3

Title: Alone in New York
Fandom/original: Original
Characters: Kris Everwood and Chase Morton
Rating: PG (maybe?)
Word count: 491
Notes: This actually only took me 10 minutes, partially because I couldn't think of how to continue the story specifically.

The brunette gave a loud, harsh groan.

Soaked to the bone, cold, and very, very ticked off. That easily described the girl in a nutshell as she kicked a large puddle of water.

"Dammit!" she cursed angrily, the large splash of water unexpectedly hitting a passing car.

Marooned didn't even cover this. She was certainly stranded in a random street in the middle of New York. She promised to wait for her friend there. Waiting for an hour... then it started to rain. Still, she stood out in the rain. Waiting... waiting...

What made her mad was that it was a pain in the butt to get there in the first place and, truth be told, she had no clue where she even was; she sucked at that sort of stuff. In the middle of nowhere it seemed, surrounded by people (some people that creeped her out to no end), and annoyed. And she hated rain. Hated it.

"Thanks a lot, Chase!" she exclaimed out into the air, resulting in a few weird glances. She clutched her messenger bag's strap as a sort of comfort; or maybe a stress reliever.

"Screw it," she mumbled to herself, pushing a wet strand of hair behind her ear, "I'm getting out of here..."

"Kris!"

Footsteps. Splashes. Kris slowly turned her head and her gaze, her brow furrowed.

"Sorry I'm late!" the boy exclaimed, out of breath. He pulled his raincoat hood tightly over his messy blonde locks.

The brunette stared at him beneath the darkness of her hood, brow furrowed. She clutched the strap tighter.

"...I'm gonna freakin' punch you!" she snapped, raising her fist into the air as if ready to thrust it into the boy's nose.

The boy jerked back. "I-I'm sorry!"

"I'm still going to punch you!" her voice grew louder. "You were going to strand me, weren't you!?"

"No, of course not!" Chase took another step back, rubbing the back of his head, "I kinda... forgot about this, actually..."

The girl looked dumbfounded and quite angry.

Suddenly, the boy recoiled backwards, rubbing his red, sore nose rapidly, "Hey! What was that for?!"

"For being stupid," Kris spat, sticking out her tongue childishly and folding her arms.

Title: “Abandoned and Abandoning”
Fandom/original: Doctor Who
Characters: Rose Tyler, (Tenth, Donna-) Doctor; Rose x Doctor
Rating: K Plus / PG / All Ages
Word count: 371
Notes: 04x13 (“Journey’s End”). First part of a longer fic that’ll be posted in personal journal upon completion, as this was the part that was initially written for the word. Until the thing ran away from me (like they usually do) and went from 15 minutes to…oh, 70?

Oh my God, he’s left me.

Oh my God, he’s leaving me again.

Oh my God, he’s…

…not this time.

So she watches the box fade, she clings to the hand that’s his but not, and…lets him go.

Goodbye, Doctor. Goodbye, Donna. Goodbye, Rose.

Because the box is fading from a beach it was never supposed to see, and – despite what they all seem to think – she knows a piece of her (maybe all of her) is fading with it. Goodbye, TARDIS. It’s been a good run. Goodbye, Rose Tyler. You weren’t supposed to stay here.

She was left here once before, by an image she couldn’t touch yet seemed to slice her to shreds. She’s being left again, by the man who always seems to think he knows what’s best for her but…damn it all, does he really know anything?

So she lets go. She straightens her back and clings to the wrong hand. She watches the place the box once stood for only a moment, and then she releases the hand and turns to her mother. She sees the understood hurt, the empathy, the underlying joy (because it was the end of the world, and while she went back to him he kept his word and returned her to her) – and she can’t take it, but she does. Because she’s Rose Tyler, and she’s learned to live with disappointment.

That doesn’t keep her from turning on her heel and bringing her arm up, connecting it in an audible SMACK! against the side of the face that’s his but not.

“Ow! Blimey, Rose, what was that for?!”

He looks away, his eyes downcast and accepting. She knows he knows she’s directing the slap at him, not him, and she knows he knows he’s the closest she’ll ever get to the real thing again. She knows he knows he’s the only one who can take his slaps now – and it drives her mad that he doesn’t question it. He’s wrong, so wrong, but they don’t seem to see it. Don’t seem to care.

He doesn’t say anything because she doesn’t, and she remains silent when he does. Wordless, she stuffs her hands in the pockets of her coat and walks away.
