“Why is your lip bleeding?”
Marc quickly wiped his lips with a shirt-sleeve. “What blood?” he asked after a second, and gave a wide-eyed look that screamed, I’m innocent.
It almost worked.
“Your shirt’s buttoned up wrong,” Kristen pointed out helpfully. Rolling her eyes at the sullen glare that her twin immediately aimed at the shirt in question, Kris turned back to her homework. “What’d you do this time?” she asked distractedly.
“Some kid named Hunter,” her brother answered irritably. The bed moved when her brother dropped down onto it beside her and blew out a loudly exasperated sigh. “His brother caught us.”
Kristen looked over at her brother and raised an eyebrow.
“Fine. So maybe it was more like ‘he sicced his brother on me,’” Marc said, glaring at the ceiling above him. “But, seriously, who the hell does that anymore?”
It was an hour later before the name finally registered.
Eyes widening in disbelief, Kristen stared at her brother. “Matthew Hunter? Your boyfriend?”
Marc waved a hand dismissively. “Yeah. Him.” He looked back at her. “I tried to shove him off the roof last week, remember?”
