"I don't mean to impose," she muttered, shifting lightly from foot to foot in the sorority house's hallway. "I just...I can go somewhere else, if this is a bad time."
It wasn't the soft voice or the fidgeting that got to her--though those were utterly pathetic, and certainly enough to provoke pity in anyone with a heart not made of stone--but rather the air of complete dejection portrayed in the smaller girl's slumped shoulders and downcast eyes. She looked as though someone had just run over her dog.
"Honey? What's up?" She heard rustling behind her, and then Josh was standing at her shoulder, blinking sleepily, sheet wrapped loosely around his waist.
"Oh!" Amy blushed. "Sorry, I didn't know..." She turned to go, but, moved by her sister's defeated posture, Abby laid a hand on her shoulder.
"It's okay. Come on in."

"Why don't you go get a snack or something?" Abby murmured, kissing her boyfriend's cheek.
He nodded and made his way out, smiling kindly at Amy as he slid past her.
Abby grinned fondly at his retreating back for a moment before turning back to her distraught Little Sister, now perched on the end of her bed. "Okay, sweetie, what's wrong?"
Amy's hands clenched in her lap. "It's Eric...He's cheating on me."
Abby was startled. They seemed like such a good couple--she'd met Eric a few times, and thought he was a nice guy. He'd always been attentive and affectionate with Amy. "Oh, honey. Do you know this for a fact, or is it just a suspicion? I mean--"
"No, I--I caught him. A girl from our Chem class, He didn't even try to deny it." Tears spilled from her eyes, and she turned and buried her face in her friend's shoulder. "Why? I love him so much! Why would he do that to me?"
Abby had no answer to give. All she could do was to rock her weeping Little and stroke the girl's hair until she'd cried herself out.
